Noninfectious aortitis As previousy stated, vascular inflammation in aortitis is pre-dominantly noninfectious. Noninfectious aortitis can be part of large-, medium-, or small-vessel vascu-litis, since diseases in this category commonly affect other vessels and may be part of a systemic disorder (1). 2. Noncontrast study shows high attenuation of aortic or pulmonary artery wall, CECT shows concentric thickening of the vessel wall and double ring of the aorta in early disease. 3. Syphilitic aortitis is a finding seen in tertiary syphilis and is a result of progressive weakening of the aortic wall due to chronic inflammation. The aortic root is most commonly involved. Additionally, coronary origin stenosis and aortic valve insufficiency may develop.

The material is divided into three groups. Group I consists of all of the cases of syphilitic aortitis, proved at autopsy, which could, be found locally, in which chest roentgenograms were available. Aortitis is a rare condition and easily overlooked. It is defined as infectious or non-infectious inflammation of the aortic wall. This report describes two cases of aortitis, demonstrating the diagnostic difficulty and how diagnostic delay could have been reduced if early radiology had been performed. Radiology 2004;233(2):345–352.

The clinical manifestations are usua … Multimodality imaging of aortitis is useful for identification of acute and chronic mural changes due to inflammation, edema, and fibrosis, as well as characterization of structural luminal changes including aneurysm and stenosis or occlusion. 2018-11-28 Learning points: Aortitis is rarely suspected due to its vague symptoms, but diagnosis is aided by computed tomography (CT) of the thorax and abdomen.A delay in aortitis diagnosis can be life threatening; however, early radiology can ensure timely diagnosis and considerably improve patient outcome.Aortitis should always be suspected in cases with immunosuppression and systemic … aortitis with which radiologists should be familiar. Teaching Points † Aortitis is an inflammatory condition of infectious/nonin-fectious origin involving the vessel wall.

Noninfectious Aortitis The association between rheumatic diseases Syphilitic aortitis is a form of aortitis which occurs due to syphilis.
A multipronged approach that includes clinical, laboratory and radiological findings is needed in guiding the approach to patient treatment strategies. Syphilitic aortitis takes place during the stage of tertiary syphilis between 5 to 30 years after initiation of primary syphilis. This is normally due to infection of the aorta secondary to endarteritis obliterans of the vasa vasorum.
